The decoration of this commode is close to that on an encoignure, a commode and a table à écrire in blue and white vernis Martin made by Mathieu Criaerd (died 1776) and delivered on 29 January 1743 by the marchand-mercier Hébert to Madame de Mailly, mistress of Louis XV, for a room hung with blue and cream silk in her apartments at the château de Choisy.
