Lot Essay

Flowers, especially azaleas, play a large part in Jessica Hayllar's work. They often appear in her earlier pictures, even when the main theme is domestic genre, and she painted little else after 1900 when, having moved with her father to Bournemouth, she was crippled in an accident.
