The male figure has been identified as Kwikwilyaqa, the "Mocking" Kachina who appears in Mixed Kachina Dances and makes fun of everyone (see Colton, 1985, no.107); the female may be Poli Sio Hemis (see Colton, op.cit.no.246). We have been unable to trace any information about V.J.Evans whose inscriptions read CAT.361036 ACC.11 3605 HOPI and C.361099 A.113605 HOPI respectively. The kachinas were acquired by the father of the present owner whilst travelling in Europe before World War II
