In a later ormolu-mounted ebonised wooden frame variously inscribed on the reverse 'left', 'L R FIRE', 'No 1', 'right of window (?)' and 'right of...'; the reverse of the enamel with the remnants of a paper label inscribed 'Li... Le...'.
Minor losses and restorations.

Lot Essay

The composition of the present plaque is based on Raphael's altarpiece of the same subject, known as Lo Spasimo di Sicilia (Madrid, Museo del Prado), probably by way of Agostino Veneziano's engraving of the composition dated 1517 (B. XIV).
