Jones refers to the group of deformed masks (which are peculiar to the Ibibio) as "pathological" masks, and illustrates a photograph taken in 1899 by a Mr.Green of Bonny, of a group of Anang masks in which a mask similar to the present example is included (p.175, fig.81).
