Lot Essay

An unusual and fine composition which appears to belong to the group of Neapolitan illumination associated with the name of Cristoforo Orimina, the artist of a Statutes of the Ordre du Saint-Esprit (Bib. Nat. MS Français 4274), and a Psalter (cf. Bodley Canon Liturg. 151; Pächt & Alexander, Italian School, 169). A miniature, probably by the same artist, from an antiphonal depicting Noah's Ark, has been ascribed to the circle of Orimina by Sandra Hindman, in Ferrini and Fogg, Medieval & Renaissance Miniature Painting, (1988) no.12
