The most popular of Rodrigo's works, and perhaps of all works for classical guitar, the Concierto de Aranjuez was first performed in 1940 by Regino Sainz de la Maza to whom it is dedicated. The work was first published by Sociedad de Estudios y Publicaciones at Madrid in 1949. The present manuscript was clearly used by the lithographer for this publication: pagination marks, insertions and corrections correspond exactly. Intriguingly, mistakes in the manuscript have remained uncorrected in the printed version, for example the semi-quaver rest remains in the bar before figure 4 when it should be a quaver rest
