LONDON CHRONOMETER MAKER TO THE QUEEN, No. 2018, Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, blued steel hands, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance, circular heat compensation weights, blued steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl inscribed and numbered DENT 2018 with 'percussion cap' cover to winding hole, gimballed in a later three-tier brass-bound mahogany box, the centre section with inset bone ivory disc inscribed DENT 2018, external brass drop handles

Lot Essay

It is understood that for years the present chronometer was used by Shreve & Co., the San Francisco jewellers, as their standard timekeeper for providing accurate time to their customers.
