(N)6866 1941, Arabic hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, black finish hands, nickel plated frames with parallel-line spotting, the top-plate inscribed MODEL 21 14 JEWELS, HAMILTON WATCH CO., LANCASTER, PENNA, MADE IN U.S.A. (N)6866-1941, the pillar-plate numbered (N)6866 1941, Earnshaw escapement, Hamilton spring detent with jewelled pallet, uncut stainless steel balance rim with invar cross-arm and helical balance spring, brass bowl and gimbal in three-tier mahogany brass-bound box, the middle section with two applied brass plaques one inscribed HAMILTON WATCH CO. LANCASTER P.A., U.S.A., the other No. 6866, with external brass drop-handles, trade lables of GEO. E. BUTLER & CO SAN FRANCISCO and P. HOWARD & SON

This is a particularly good example of the 11,000 or so marine chronometers made by the Hamilton Watch Co., beginning in 1940.
The name "Hamilton" was selected to honour Andrew Hamilton the original owner of the land at Lancaster which was gifted to him by the heirs of William Penn
