The silvered dial signed and numbered Construite par Berthoud fres. N 200 and additionally Modifiee et Reglee par VISSIERE, regulator dial, hours with Roman numerals at (XII), subsidiary seconds (at VI), 0-36 sector up-and-down dial (at ii), outer minutes chapter with Arabic five minute intermarks, Breguet blued steel hour and minute hands, full-plate movement, the top plate inscribed Berthoud Freres N 200, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic Vissiere style balance with two large and two small circular heat compensation weights, steel impulse roller, jewelled discharging roller, bright steel helical balance spring, strip steel spring detent with jewelled locking stone secured by two steady pins and screw to side of banking block, brass drum dust case within outer brass bowl, gimbal with bolt action locking arm, plain two-tier mahogany box with sliding cover, brass external drop handles

Lot Essay

It would appear that Berthoud Freres designed the top plate to take a pivoted detent; a now empty jewel setting hole indicates that this was so. It is most likely that Vissiere opted to fit a spring detent and his form of balance rim when, as the dial legend states, it was with him for "modification and regulating".
