Lot Essay

John Antes (1787) is recorded as apprenticed to William Addis. A pocket chronometer (hallmarked 1797) is recorded in the Guildhall Museum.

The sold ruby roller is particularly unusual to find in any chronometer escapement. The geared index arm assembly is exceptional. The decorative skeleton work of the top-plate is an attractive feature.
