The gilt-brass-lined case with handle to the inverted bell top, shaped apertures for side frets and front quarter frets now covered with velvet, the base on gilt-metal block feet, the dial signed Robert Higgs, London on a silvered oval plaque in the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, silvered chapter ring with pierced blued hands, fruiting urn-and-foliate lower spandrels, the upper ones interrupted by subsidiary rings for strike/silent and pendulum regulation, calendar ring in the arch, the six baluster pillar movement with twin fusees, pull quarter repeat on six bells via six hammers with hour strike on further bell, later anchor escapement, the backplate engraved with scrolling foliage and similarly signed in the centre within a foliate cartouche
