Popham remarks that this is a 'characteristic drawing'. The parallel hatching and the handling of wash in this drawing is similar to a study, possibly of 1583, at Christ Church, J. Byam Shaw, Drawings by Old Masters at Christ Church, Oxford, Oxford, 1976, no. 1226, pl. 730
