Lloyd suggests that this drawing may be related to Gimignani's frescoes of the Camera delle Donne illustri finished in 1648 in Palazzo Doria-Pamphili, Rome

The subject of the drawing is Horatius, sole survivor of the battle between the three Horatii and the three Curatii, killing his sister Horatia because she wept over the body of one of the dead Curatii, to whom she had been betrothed
