The elegant 'French' scroll lights with beeded Roman acanthus foliage reflect the scrolling arabesque style of the ornamental artist and silver designer Michaelangelo Pergolesi (d. 1801), who published, Designs for Various Ornament (1771-1801). They also relate to designs for candle stands on tripods by Thomas Sheraton first published in 1792 and included in his he Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing-Book, 1793-1794, pl. 55
