A GERMAN BRONZE-MOUNTED EBONISED AND BIRD'S EYE MAPLE CENTRE TABLE

The circular jasper top within a pounced channelled ormolu border, the plain panelled frieze supported on three acanthus-scroll headed cabriole legs joined by a concave-fronted triangular stretcher supporting a spirally-reeded turned spreading shaft with bulbous acanthus base and gadrooned spreading socle, on scroll feet terminating in patera and gadrooned blocks with inset castors, one castor replaced 42½in. (108cm.) diam.; 32¾in. (83cm.) high

The design for this table is related to that from the 'Magazin fur Freunde eines geschmackvollen Ameublements. Zunachts fur Tischler und Ebenisten. 13 Helfte 1827-1829' (illustrated in G. Himmelheber, Deutche Mobelvorlagen 1800-1900, Munchen, 1983, fig. 1415)
