Lot Essay

These fauteuils are stylistically related to the oeuvre of Michel Cresson, maître in 1740. The pomegrenate is a recurrent decorative feature and the palmettes on the legs are very close to those on a fauteuil illustrated by P. Kjellberg in 'Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe siecle', Paris 1989, p. 210, fig. A, as well as on a pair of fauteuils sold anonymously at Sotheby's, 3 December 1994, lot 264
