In a 19th century carved and gilded Florentine leaf frame.

The present picture was published as autograph by D'Achiardi, Borenius, Gombosi, Pallucchini and Safarik and is sold with transcripts of certificates by A. L. Mayer, dated 5 Sept. 1930, and W. Suida, dated 8 Aug. 1937. The original, delivered to Pope Clement VII early in 1525, was discovered in the Národni Galerie, Prague, and published by Safarik in 1963 (see M. Hirst, Sebastiano del Piombo, 1981, pl.128); it omits the rose depicted in the present painting
