This lot is sold with a photocopy of a certificate by Dr. M. J. Friedländer, dated 25 October 1937, as Hans Baldung Grien.
Von der Osten, loc. cit., 1983, attributes the present panel to a 'Mitarbeiter des Hans Baldung. Strassburg um 1520'. He suggests that a fragmentary 'Capture of Christ' in Obbach (idem, pp.148-9, no.47, and pl.114), revealing to a greater degree the hand of Baldung himself, may have come from the same altar
