The architect Samuel Ware (1781-1860) was engaged by Lord Cavendish for the planning of his 'Covered Passage'. Ware submitted a plan on the 5th of May 1815, and after two further plans his final estimate was accepted in February 1818 and construction began. The Arcade was opened on the 2nd of March 1819, and all the shops were occupied within the same month
