The artists's notes in A. B. Grimaldi's catalogue reads:Eleventh enamel. Size 5.123 x 4.375. Fourth of Sir Joshua, October. Plate, 1.0.0. Passing the fire 23 times, 2.6.0. Mettle rim, 0.17.0. Glass, 0.8.0=4.11.0. This picture took me 46 days' labour, and is a very fine enamel. Unsold May 1st 1813. Now in the hands of Stacey Grimaldi, Esq., 1826."
The original by Reynolds was painted in 1788 and is in the Royal Collection
