The Hon. Maria Charlotte Pelham (d. 1840), was the daughter of Charles Anderson, 1st Baron Yarborough and Sophia, daughter and heiress of George Aufrere. She married William Tennant of Aston Hall in 1804.
Mrs. Tennant appears to be a popular subject with George Engleheart. It is recorded that a Mrs. Tennant sat on 12th September, 1788, a copy of which was painted 25th October, 1789, 10 guineas being paid for both portraits. In September, 1798 and December, 1799 there are three more entries of copies being painted; and in 1803 she paid 15 guineas for another original portrait
