Lot Essay

The arms on the border are those of Forbes of Newe and Edinglassie, charged with a crescent for difference, probably for Sir Charles Forbes, 3rd Baronet. He was born in 1803, the second son of the first baronet, and succeeded his nephew, who died unmarried, to the title in 1852. He was a captain in the 17th Lancers, and died in 1877.The crest and motto in the centre is that of Stuart-Forbes of Pitsligo.
