Le Roy was born in Le Mans where he studied under the artist Philippe Rousseau, painting still lifes with fruit and pictures of cats. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1859 and 1865. He specialised in depictions of animals in domestic interiors. He died in Paris at the age of 32.
