A study for the figure on the extreme left of The Baptism of Saint Augustine painted in 1775 in the choir of Nôtre-Dame-des-Victoires, Paris. Carle van Loo painted a series of seven pictures between 1746 and 1755 of which the Baptism was the penultimate. The standing man has a goatee in the picture, but in this drawing he wears a moustache which would suggest that the drawing is closer to the lost modello, only known from a print in which the man has a moustache
