Benesch placed this with a small group of drawings in the Albertina, at Brussels and Munich, and in private collections (his numbers 693-8, 743 and 743a) which he defined as 'sketches after nature' and considered to 'show the transition from the curvilinear style of the pen drawings of 1643 to works of 1645'
