Professor Cocke suggests that this may be an early drawing, and compares the present drawing with a Study of a seated Man of 1548, R. Cocke, op.cit, no. 2, illustrated. The pose of the figure in the present drawing suggests it may have been intended for a Saint presenting a donor to the Holy Family
