Lot Essay

This study is similar to a crayon manner engraving, in reverse of this drawing, by Demarteau, P. Jean-Richard, L' Oeuvre gravé de François Boucher, Paris, 1978, no. 798, illustrated. The drawing may date from the late 1740s or 1750s, as the type is similar to the head of Venus in the Toilet of Venus of 1749 in the Louvre, A. Ananoff, François Boucher, Lausanne, 1976, II, no. 330, fig. 954
