The Antique marble Cleopatra or Sleeping Nymph, now in the Vatican Museums, was greatly admired from the it was first recorded in 1512. Henry Hoare commissioned from John Cheere, a white enamelled copy of the Belvedere statue for the grounds of his country house of Stourhead, Wiltshire and had it placed in the grotto.
