VARIOUS PROPERTIES The following ten lots form an interesting group of late Victorian and Edwardian jewellery incorporating signed and dated enamels by William Soper and his son Harold. William Soper, whose business card gives addresses at Poland Street and 146 Ebury Street, worked by appointment to Queen Victoria's third daughter, Helena (Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein) and taught the art of enamelling to her daughter, Princess Marie-Louise, who became the first member of the Royal Family to exhibit at the R.A. A short extract from 'My Memories of Six Reigns' by Princess Marie Louise (1956) p.118 reads "Sir Stephen (Gatty) recommended to me a most expert teacher, a certain Mr William Soper..." and A. Graves, The Royal Academy of Arts, A Complete Dictionary of Contributors...1769-1904 (1906) lists exhibits by William and Harold Soper between 1882-1903
