Lot Essay

Though the decoration of these plaques has in the past been ascribed to P. Weitsch, the very low horizon and sharp silhouettes of the figures is much closer to the work of J. Eisentrager. The treatment of the landscape contrasts sharply with the pair of plaques, sold in our Geneva Rooms, 12 May 1986, lot 168 which are most probably by Weitsch and derived from a similar Dutch engraved source
