拍品專文

This is a complete volume of a Qur'an originally written in about fifteen volumes. The distressing seen on the opening folio, and particularly the reduction in the number of lines of text on the last two pages, confirm this.
The script is very well proportioned, with a good control of the pooling of ink, a skill that becomes more difficult the lighter in colour the ink that is used. When considering this mastery of script, it is surprising to find the decoration so cursory, almost as if it had been added as an afterthought. This is an example of the earlier tradition of kufic Quranic calligraphy, combining strong script with minimal decoration.
