While bath rasps are a well known group of items, most are in the form of animals. This is the only published example of a medieval potter's self-portrait in clay. Unfortunately both the left arm and, more importantly, the head have been replaced, but the remains of the left hand can still be seen attached to the side of the bowl, confirming its original position.
