We are grateful to Dr. Sam Segal for confirming the attribution; he believes it to be a characteristic work of the 1670s.

The support is stamped with the maker's monogram 'FDB' (= François de Bout, admitted to the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke in 1637/8).

The sculpted relief in the cartouche may be the work of another hand.
