INDENTColonel John Robertson, C.I.E. (1837-1915), joined the 42nd. Royal Highlanders as a Drummer aged 16 years and served with his regiment throughout the Crimea campaign 1854-55; and the Indian Mutiny 1857-58; was appointed Honorary Ensign, Quarter-Master General's Department, Bengal Establishment 1871, Hon. Lieutenant, 1874; Hon. Captain and Hon. Major 1875; awarded Empress of India Medal, silver, for services rendered at the Imperial Assembly, Delhi, January 1877; Assistant Military Accountant General, Government of India, 1877-88 (C.I.E. 1882); retired from the Army, 1887 with the position of Deputy Commissary; President Simla Municipality, 1891-97
