Nigeria 1942; appointed "Senior Naval Officer Landing" (J), for the Allied amphibious assault on Sicily, July 1943, being one of those responsible for the naval side of the actual assaults; present in the Landing Ships Infantry (L.S.I.s) with the first assault convoys; this responsible position was usually held by officers of Captains rank (D.S.C.); was present in H.M.S.
