INDENTM.C. London Gazette 29.1.1917. Temp. 2nd. Lt. James Eliot Norton R.F.A. "For conspicuous gallantry in action. He continued to pass the orders to two isolated sections after telephonic communication had broken down, thereby enabling three guns to be kept in action. On another occasion he kept his battery in action under very heavy fire, and set a fine example to his men".

Bar to M.C. London Gazette 10.12.1919. B/58th. Bde., R.F.A. "For conspicuous gallantry and ability at Meaurhin on 6th. November, 1918, while performing liason duties with attacking infantry. On one occasion he brought back information personally through a heavy barrage. Later he got a line through to the infantry, which he maintained all night inspite of the severity of the hostile barrage, going out under heavy fire when the signallers were unable to repair it, and mending all the breaks himself".
