INDENTLieutenant Sydney W. Carline (188-1929), Landscape and Portrait Painter, Sculptor, Medallist, Etcher, Ruskin Master and Official War Artist became Second Lieutenant (on probation) Royal Flying Corps, March 1916; completed pilot training and is shown as being operational with 19 Squadron, August 1916 (wounded, 31st. August); Lieutenant 1918; was appointed official artist for the Imperial War Museum and was commissioned to produce 'aircraft' paintings from Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Persia and India, 1920; he contributed some illustrations to 'Revolt in the Desert' -- T. E. Lawrence; Carline exhibited his work at the War Exhibition -- Royal Academy (now in the Imperial War Museum) and in a number of major city art galleries, including Manchester, Lincoln, Toronto and Winnipeg
