Lot Essay

Although the present taperstick was bought separately from the candlesticks, even 'matched' candlesticks and tapersticks are exceedingly rare. Perhaps the best known set, comprising a pair of candlesticks and a pair of tapersticks, are those by Thomas Folkingham, 1718, and exhibited in the Loan Collection of English Plate, Park Lane, 1929, no.512
