Lot Essay

The arms are those of Jodrell impaling Vanderplank, for Gilbert Jodrell and Anne, his second wife, whom he married on 28th June, 1747. Gilbert Jodrell (c.1714-1772) was the second son of Paul Jodrell Esq., of Duffield, Derbyshire. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in February 1730 where his father was Master of the Bench.

This basket was undoubtably purchased using funds from the #15,000 marriage settlement given by Samuel Vanderplank in 1747
