FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, 5 vols., 8vo (198 x 120mm.), hand-coloured engraved titles and coat-of-arms heading dedication in vol.I, 360 engraved plates (most hand-coloured), contemporary French marbled calf, spines gilt, g.e. (extremities slightly scuffed, occasional slight worming to leather).
Together with an incomplete set (vols.I-VIII of 12) of F.A.David's Les Antiquités de Herculaneum.., Paris, 1780-9, finely bound in blue straight-grained morocco gilt.
The first work is a description of Sir William Hamilton's collection of classical vases, which was sold to the British Museum in 1772. cf.Blackmer 847; cf.Cohen/de Ricci 474. The lot sold not subject to return. (13)
