Second edition, folio (340 x 225mm.), engraved title (cut down and mounted), numerous wood cut illustrations (lacking first and last blanks, dedication cut down and mounted, 4 following leaves with upper margins strengthened, 5X<->4, 6I<->3<->.<->4 and 6T<->6 supplied from smaller copies, the second with 2 hand-coloured illustrations), late-18th-century English red morocco gilt, Ormathwaite armorial bookplate (spine faded and slightly scuffed).
A good copy with an interesting American association: there are at least 12 manuscipt entries in an 18th-century hand identifying various plants as growing in Maryland. i.e. p.446 'This Codded Arsmart grows plentifully in Maryland & we call it Skipweed which being boyl'd is a good sallad', p.1525 'This Tree groweth naturally & to a very large Magnitude in the province of Maryland...'.
