Lot Essay

Quarter-Master John Wright, a Yorkshireman, appears to have entered the Royal Navy as an Able Seaman aboard the Satellite in June 1831. Joining the Ship's Company of the Revenge in August 1839, he went on to serve in the operations on, and off the coast of Syria in the following year. Next actively employed in the Bittern in the Pegu operations of 1852-53, Wright was discharged ashore at St. Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope in December 1853.
