Arapiles was a small village to the South-East of Salamanca, adjacent to two heights, the 'Greater' and 'Lesser Arapiles'. The village and heights were to play an important part in the Battle of Salamanca fought on 22.7.1812 between Wellington and Marshal Marmont.
