Sergeant F. Mellor was wounded at Dwarsvlei on 9.10.1900, when elements of Barton's Fusilier Brigade drove the Boers out of a strong position near that place, and was Mentioned in Despatches by Lord Roberts (London Gazette 27.9.1901 refers).
