Corporal H.E. Bradish was Mentioned in Despatches and promoted to Corporal by Lord Kitchener for his gallantry during the latter phase of the Boer War, 'A patrol being surrounded near Braklaagte, Orange River Colony, 12 January [1902], [he] volunteered to carry a message for assistance, and rode through very heavy fire to do so' (London Gazette 8.3.1902 refers).
