Lot Essay

Private James William Daley was killed in action at Gallipoli on 7.6.1915, while serving with the 1/9th Battalion, Manchester Regiment. Having landed at 'V' Beach on 9.5.1915, the Battalion was moved forward to the Eski Line in the first week of June, 'C' Company carrying out a successful attack between "The Vineyard" and Krithia Nullah on the 7th. The action resulted in casualties of five killed, 25 wounded and 13 missing, Private Daley among them (See Westlake's British Regiments at Gallipoli).
