Lot Essay

Sold with a small quantity of original documents, including Memorial Scroll and a 'Graves Registration' photograph of the recipient's grave at Wanquetin; an official programme for the dedication of an altar in the Memorial Chamber, Peace Tower, Houses of Parliament, Ottawa in August 1927; and an old handwritten copy of the last letter sent by the recipient on 7.7.1918 ('I hope you have escaped the influenza, have not been bothered with it myself, thank goodness. There is only one good thing about it - Fritz is bothered with it just as bad as we are').

Private Edgar Candler was killed in action in France on 18.7.1918.
