Lot Essay

Lieutenant-Colonel Montagu Hope was born in March 1844 and was commissioned into the Gordon Highlanders in December 1862. A Major by the time of the Egypt operations of 1882, he fought with the 1st Battalion at the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir and was advanced to Lieutenant-Colonel in October 1885.
