Lot Essay

2nd Lieutenant P.R.H. Longley was commissioned into the 15th (Service) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry in June 1917, but at some stage appears to have been attached to the 17th (Glasgow Chamber of Commerce) Battalion, or the old 'Featherbeds', until the latter was disbanded in March 1918. More certain is the fact he was with the 15th Battalion in the attack on Ayette on 9.4.1918, when it faced an enemy gas attack and he was wounded.
